After waking up at my hotel close to Kings Dominion, I decided that today would be the day for the longest drive of my annual rollercoaster road trip. I planned to visit Fun Spot Atlanta and Six Flags Over Georgia, aiming to experience everything in a single day and endure an 8 and a half hour drive! (I recommend giving yourself more time; waking up at 3am was quite challenging.)
Following a couple of gas stops, I sleeplessly arrived at Fun Spot Atlanta in the late afternoon. My initial thoughts about this park were that it resembles a typical family entertainment center found in any metropolitan area, featuring various older attractions, an arcade housed in a basic structure, adorned with unique and somewhat eerie wall murals, and a brand-new Rocky Mountain Construction I-Box track rollercoaster called Aire Force One.
Aire Force One Review
Approaching Aire Force One, I quickly noticed a significant detail - there are no queues. Its like the local community is not yet aware of the existence of this impressive steel construction.
After acquiring my ticket, I proceeded directly to the station and boarded the rollercoaster without delay. Currently, there is significant competition among RMC rollercoasters along the east coast. This particular ride stands at 154 ft tall, features a 146ft drop, spans 3400 Ft of track, reaches speeds of 64mph, and includes 4 inversions (such as a hang time inversion beneath the lift hill, a diving inversion, a tight barrel roll over the arcade, and a final zero-g-roll). While these elements alone represent impressive statistics for a rollercoaster, the main focus of this ride is on providing exhilarating airtime.
The rid overall is like a compilation of all the best elements from manufacturer RMC, blended into one thrilling experience. Although the airtime is amazing, the intensity of being thrown out of your seat can be a bit painful. I had to take a break after riding it once to give my thighs a chance to recuperate. Nevertheless, the ride is outstanding and ranks among the top 3 in RMC's collection.
Hurricane Coaster & The Others
Although Air Force One is a high-quality attraction, the rest of the park resembles a neglected carnival. The overall quality of the rides also declines significantly. The Hurricane coaster, a 38ft Hi-Miler model, is a complete disaster. The tall lawn weeds around it add to the overall shabbiness of this rollercoaster. Its layout features numerous sharp turns that feel like being stabbed in the side with a plastic knife.
Overall
Following a dreadful experience on the Hurricane coaster, I decided to leave in order to make it to Six Flags Atlanta before I became completely exhausted. In my opinion, the park could greatly enhance its reputation by introducing new facilities to match the world-class status of their new rollercoaster, Aire Force One. I dare to suggest that bringing the park up to the standards of their Kissimmee, Florida location would represent a significant improvement. I recommend visiting for the roller-coaster experience, and only staying at the park if you have no other plans for the day in the area.
