Theme Park Road Trips From Detroit

Here are the theme parks that can be easily reached within a weekend from Detroit, MI.

(Note, This is an average and drive times may increase with construction and road closures)

Living in Detroit, MI or its nearby northern suburbs means that the journey to Cedar Point can take anywhere from 2 hours to 2 hours and 45 minutes. To fully enjoy Cedar Point and the fantastic waterpark attractions in Sandusky, Ohio, as well as the Lake Erie Shores and Islands area, it is advisable to stay overnight for at least one night.

Having said that... every Michigander is aware that taking a day trip to Cedar Point and driving back at night is essentially a tradition and can be easily accomplished. Whether you are visiting relatives in the Detroit region, it is feasible for visitors to this area to also journey to Cedar Point.

If you prefer to avoid the toll roads upon entering Ohio to cedar point, it is recommended to take route 2.

Otherwise, using toll road 90 should not exceed $5 for a one-way trip.

Living in Detroit, MI or its nearby northern suburbs means that the journey to Kings Island can take anywhere from 4 hours to 4 hours and 50 minutes. To fully enjoy Kings Island and its surrounding attractions like Jungle Jim's (One of the Largest Grocery Stores Around With Theme park Nostalgia), it is advised to stay at least one night.

That being said, it is possible for residents of Detroit to complete the journey to Kings Island in a single day. To arrive around the park's opening time, you should aim to depart by 6am at the latest, without factoring in any rest stops. Additionally, you would probably have to leave the park between 7:30pm and 8:00pm to ensure you can return by midnight to 1am.

Note: Unfortunately, your fastest route getting to Kings Island is going right down I-75 till you reach the Exit for Mason, Ohio (Which is around Exit 22).
